Contribute To The CA Attorney General School Truancy Report!

Eagle Software has been working closely with the California Attorney General’s Office in their mission to address California’s elementary school truancy and absenteeism crisis. If you have not already seen the "In School + On Track" report released last year, it is available at https://oag.ca.gov/truancy.

A short summary of that report:

· Elementary school truancy & absenteeism generally does not receive the same emphasis as in secondary years

· Yet, truancy and chronic absenteeism during elementary school initiate long-term negative effects

· Missing school during elementary school years not only leads to the development of a bad habit, but it also means that children are missing out on valuable education that becomes the foundation of their later teachings, even increasing the risk of dropping out at a later age

· Fiscally, truancy & absenteeism cause a decrease in school funding based on attendance rates, to the tune of $1.4 billion a year for districts across the state

· Early intervention can lead to tremendous improvements in later attendance rates

As the Attorney General’s Office seeks to release an updated report for 2014, Eagle Software's position as the leading provider of Student Information Systems in California has made us a great fit to assist in the collection of summary data to analyze. Eagle Software has developed an extract within Aeries that can be performed to submit attendance summary information to the Attorney General’s office.

We respectfully request that you run this process and send your information to the CA Attorney General.

The Attorney General is in a time crunch and has requested that data be sent on or before Friday, August 29th.  Despite the short timeline, the cause is certainly worth the effort.

The Attorney General’s office will present any data only in aggregate form, and will not list data for any school or district by name in the report without first getting your permission.  The Attorney General’s office is grateful to all districts for their willingness to partner in this effort and for their work to assist students and families struggling with attendance problems.

Eagle Software is proud to partner with the Attorney General’s office, and we encourage you to submit an optional report from your district.  If you have any questions, please contact Kelsey.Krausen@doj.ca.gov or respond here to the listserv.

INSTRUCTIONS:

The form you need to run is inside AdminCS called "Create Attendance Extract for CA Attorney General."  It's actually a great form for any district to analyze attendance information.  It needs to be run against your 2013-2014 database.  Documentation can be found on our website: Attorney_General_Extract.pdf
